Plain Rod

Plain Rod

MS round bars, are long, cylindrical metal bars made from mild steel, which is a low-carbon steel known for its ductility, malleability, and weldability. These rods are called “plain” because they have a smooth, uniform surface without any deformation (unlike TMT bars, which have ridges for concrete bonding). They are commonly available in various diameters and lengths to suit different construction and fabrication needs.

MS plain rods are widely used in general construction, fabrication, machining, and manufacturing applications. They are often used to make components such as bolts, fasteners, gates, grills, frames, and machinery parts. Their ability to be easily cut, welded, and shaped makes them ideal for both structural and ornamental uses. While they are strong enough for many applications, their smooth surface means they do not provide strong grip in reinforced concrete structures, making them unsuitable for critical load-bearing RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) work.

One important consideration is that MS plain rods are not naturally corrosion-resistant.    When used in outdoor or humid environments, they typically require protective coatings like paint, galvanization, or oiling to prevent rusting. Despite this, MS plain rods remain popular due to their affordability, versatility, and ease of use, especially in light to medium-duty construction and engineering tasks.
